2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Long Run heads the list of 115 entries for this years Crabbies Grand National.
His trainer Nicky Henderson, who is still seeking to land his first National has also entered Triolo D’Alene, winner of last year’s Topham Chase over the famous Aintree fences and November’s Hennessy Gold Cup.
Despite having the most entries since 2009, this years race is notable for lacking a previous winner in the field; something which hasn’t happened since 2002.
But previous Grand National form still provides a great predictor, so it’s interesting to see that three of the first seven home in 2013; Teaforthree, Swing Bill and Soll are also set to line up again.
Monbeg Dude, winner of the 2012 Welsh National will undoubtedly get strong support as will Sunnyhillboy, one of 8 JP McManus entries.
Aintree’s clerk of the course and director of racing Andrew Tulloch commented “We are thrilled with both the quality and quantity of entries for the 2014 Crabbie’s Grand National, which with a prize fund of £1m is easily the richest jump race ever run outside of Japan.”
